Each character has 12 attribute scores, divided into 3 groups. These attributes are used to modify character skills, or in the case that there is no relevant skill, the task is defaulted to the relevant attribute.
Attributes modify linked skills. By +1 if the linked attribute is higher than the skills and by -1 if the attribute is two lower than the skill. ie.
ATTR > Skill ⇒ +1
ATTR < (Skill - 2) ⇒ -1
EX 1. Elayla has magnificent magical powers, her MAG score is 6. When she started her journeys, she had only fleeting knowledge of what to do with her particular talents. Her Channeling skill was at 0. But as her relevant attribute (MAG, as Channeling is a magical skill) is higher than her skill, she gets a +1 mod, bringing her Channeling Total at Fair (2)
EX 2. During his journeys Urgurth has learned a lot about first aid and all stuff medical (he probably needed all that to fix himself, a couple of times) and his Medical is at Good (3). But Urgurth is not the brightest jewel in the pouch, his WIT is only Poor (1). As it is so much lower than his skill, he has a -1 modifier to his skill total, bringing it to Fair (2).
